Before Your Facial
Particularly for those who have never had a professional facial treatment before, you may not know what to expect. Here are some helpful tips to prepare for the best facial experience.
Skincare consultation
Make sure to fill out the online Skincare Consultation Form prior to your appointment. In order to customize your treatment and for you to get the most benefits from your facial experience, I need to know as much as possible about your skincare concerns and your every day skincare routine. You also MUST inform about any medication you are taking before your appointment. This is to ensure your treatment can go ahead.
Avoid using exfoliating products at least a week before your treatment.
You should avoid using any scrubs, acids, retinols or AHAs beforehand. An AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid) is a super common ingredient found in many anti-aging and acne-fighting creams that may leave the skin prone to irritation and redness.
Note: if your skin is sunburned or any irritation is present, you should reschedule for a later time.
Avoid waxing or threading before your appointment.
If you pluck or shave any part of your face, like your eyebrows, upper lip hair, or chin, it's important to do that well before coming in for a facial. Otherwise, the treatments could irritate the tiny cuts and swollen hair follicles in your skin caused by hair removal. If you are getting a procedure like waxing or eyebrow threading done, these should be scheduled a week before or after your facial appointment.
Wait at least 2 weeks before and after any facial fillers.
Avoid having any physical manipulations done to your face for at least two weeks after your filler treatment. The filler takes some time to "set" itself once injected. For most people, it takes about 2 weeks for that setting to happen.
Work out before coming to the appointment, rather than after.
If you have a regular workout scheduled in your day, arrange your schedule so that you can work out and rinse off in the shower before your facial. A heavy workout right after your appointment can irritate your freshly cared-for face with sweat and dirt.
Relax and enjoy the process
Drink water and skip the caffeine on the day of your appointment. Come in comfortable clothes, use the toilet and turn off your phone before the facial. There's nothing more disruptive than a phone ringing or vibrating. Certainly in some instances, people have to keep it on, just in case their babysitter calls or something comes up, but generally, a facial room should be a no cell phone zone.
These are general guidelines to ensure a good experience for your professional facial treatment. Now settle in, relax, and be well on your way to beautiful, glowing skin!
After Your Facial
You can expect some redness and breakouts, so getting a facial the day before a big date is probably not the best idea. Getting breakouts after a facial is a hard fact to deal with. This is normal - promise! When your extraction is done, sometimes oil remains beneath the surface. As your pores continue to 'self-clean' post-facial, spots MAY appear. The good news is, once they've healed, your pores are cleaner so it's easier to avoid future breakouts.
Book an appointment around once a month and take good care of your skin between appointments.
Just like your body, your skin needs attention, care, and TLC. If you do not take care of your skin daily, it will become sallow, dull, congested and age quicker, no matter how often you get facials. The best way to take care of your skin at home is to exfoliate once a week, apply SPF on the daily, and do not pick your skin or face...ever.
